Breakfast Club host Charlamagne attempted to justify the assassination attempt that took place at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) over the weekend, saying people are “fed up and willing to risk it all.” Cole Allen, the gunman identified as the would-be assassin, wrote a manifesto full of left-wing talking points to justify the alleged attempt on Trump’s life.

“The Trump Administration has caused so much pain to people’s everyday lives that some folks are fed up and willing to risk it all. Simple as that. And if you’re going to talk about anybody toning down violent political rhetoric, start with the president, Donald J. Trump,” Charlamagne said on his program.

The podcast host, whose real name is Lenard Larry McKelvey, has sounded off as other left-wing pundits and media figures have also blamed the president for violent political rhetoric, even as he was the individual being targeted in the assassination attempt.

In another podcast appearance, McKelvey doubled down on this point, saying that Trump is “the drama” associated with violent political rhetoric. “The fact that when something like this happens to Donald Trump, whenever there’s an assassination attempt, whenever there’s some type of political violence happens at one of these events, people always say, ‘So, are we going to tone down the violent rhetoric towards Trump?’ Stop it!”

“Like, I’m sick of that narrative. I need every single media personality to direct that energy and that question toward one person, and that is Donald J. Trump! At what point do people simply say, ‘Hey, Trump, it’s clear that you’re the drama?’” McKelvey added.

Suspect Cole Allen has been charged with attempting to assassinate the President of the United States, transportation of a firearm and ammunition in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, as well as discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

During the incident on Saturday, a Secret Service officer was shot in the chest but was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time. Officers shot in the direction of Allen, but he was not hit and fell to the ground, where he was arrested.

Allen wrote in a manifesto that he was “no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.” He added that targets of the rampage were administration officials “prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest.”
