White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said Monday that Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will step down from her post for a job in the private sector.

The change comes as the secretary faces three complaints that were filed by female staffers to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission. Two of the allegations accuse Chavez-DeRemer’s husband, Dr. Shawn DeRemer, of sexually abusing them inside the Labor Department headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Cheung did not give a reason for the resignation but said Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling will serve as acting secretary.

“Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector,” Cheung said on X. “She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives.”
