San Antonio teen charged with murder in brutal stabbing of store clerk over 99-cent tobacco product

A San Antonio teen has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that ended the life of 25-year-old Sanad Ahmad Faisal Al Resheq. The deadly stabbing happened June 12 after 1 a.m. at the Classic Mart along Medical Drive near Fairhaven Street.
Police say the alleged perpetrator, 17-year-old Samuel Davis, got into a dispute with the clerk when he denied Davis a 99-cent tobacco product due to his age.
Davis then stabbed the victim, according to surveillance video cited in arrest records. Life-saving measures were attempted on Al Resheq, but to no avail. He died at the scene. Authorities identified Davis through camera footage, witness statements, and a photo lineup.
Al Resheq’s coworkers said Davis was a frequent customer and had been known to steal, according to KENS5. The brutal killing left members of Al Resheq’s community grieving. A handwritten sign posted on the front door announced the business would remain closed and that a vigil would be held in honor of the deceased. Leena-Louise Moyer, who visited the vigil, offered her sympathies for the young clerk.
“They are the American dream, really,” Moyer told KENS5. “He’s a baby. He hasn’t even lived.”
Another vigil attendee also mourned the clerk’s death. St. Clair Greenidge told KENS5 he spent significant time talking with Al Resheq since relocating to the area.
“To lose his life for doing his job? Tragic,” Greenidge said. “It’s sad. Very, very sad.”
Davis is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and is expected to have a pre-indictment setting at 9 am on August 18 per NEW4SA.
