The Michigan Democrat who came under fire for deleting roughly 6,000 social media posts from her online presence has compared the Trump administration to Nazi Germany, claiming that there is an “authoritarian slide” in the country.

Mallory McMorrow, who is running for US Senate to represent the state of Michigan, was asked in an interview if she thought that there were parallels between the Trump administration and Nazi Germany.

“Yeah, I do,” she told CNN. “It is deeply concerning that we’ve seen an authoritarian slide and, as we’ve talked about earlier, dividing people against each other. To convince people that if you’re not doing well economically it’s somebody else’s fault is an incredibly dangerous place to be in.”

“I don’t think a lot of people would argue [with the notion] that there are shades of authoritarianism here that we need to be deeply concerned about.” McMorrow is in a primary between herself as well as two other candidates. According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, left-wing physician Abdul El-Sayed is leading the pack of three with 23 percent and McMorrow is about tied with moderate Haley Stevens 20.7 to 20.3 percent respectively. The three candidates are running to replace retiring Senator Gary Peters.

The primary election is slated for August 4. However, McMorrow’s deleted posts have become a flashpoint after it was reported that she conducted the mass post deletion. McMorrow has been seen as a rising progressive candidate.

Some of her past posts have been critical of middle America, as reported by the New York Post. She has called for an “amicable” divorce of the coasts from the middle of the country. In 2016, after Trump was elected, she wrote on social media. “I had a dream that the US amicably broke off into The Ring (coasts+Can+Mex+parts Mich/Tex) and Middle America.”

In an Election Day post in 2016, she wrote, “We’ve downplayed the importance of quality education for all, replaced it with fear and blaming and anger, and here we are.”
