The US and Iran have reportedly already signed the memorandum of understanding (MOU), announced by Trump last month after the deal was completed on Sunday.

Talks got derailed last week by fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which led to the US and Iran trading strikes again. Israel attacked Hezbollah in Beirut again this weekend, leading to sharp blowback from President Trump, who had a profane response for Netanyahu.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz notes, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rather transparent attempt to delay the signing of the agreement in the Gulf was not really successful.” It further notes, “The Prime Minister’s transparent attempt to demonstrate independence with Trump led to a day of renewed tension.“

Now, the deal has been signed after Trump prevented the Iranians from retaliating and got Israel to lay down its arms.

“A senior American official in a briefing to reporters: We signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran. President Trump and Vice President Vance signed it. The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Kalibaf, also signed it,” Axios’s Barak Ravid said on X

He added, “Trump and Vance both electronically signed the MOU with Iran. @mb_ghalibaf signed from the Iranian side, U.S. official said.”

The agreement is no longer contingent on Israel withdrawing from Southern Lebanon, he said. Israel has the right to defend against Hezbollah attacks, according to a US official.

The completed memorandum was announced by President Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday afternoon.

Trump said in a statement yesterday, “I hereby fully authorize the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

An official signing ceremony is scheduled to be held this Friday in Switzerland.
