In a historic moment marking the end of an era for independent media, Alex Jones signed off from InfoWars for the final time on Thursday, after 27 years of broadcasting from the network he built into a powerhouse of alternative news and commentary.

Infowars’ final show was streamed live. It featured Jones, surrounded by his crew, signing off for the final time while toasting with drinks.

The closure stems directly from the Sandy Hook defamation lawsuits.

In 2022, Jones and InfoWars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, were hit with massive judgments totaling over $1.5 billion for claims that Jones had defamed victims’ families by questioning aspects of the 2012 shooting.

Jones filed for personal bankruptcy, but the company’s assets remained subject to a court-appointed Texas state receiver, who was tasked with liquidating them to compensate the families.

A 2024 federal bankruptcy auction saw The Onion supposedly win the bid to acquire InfoWars with plans to turn it into a parody operation. They even hired comedian Tim Heidecker to impersonate Jones.

That sale was rejected by the bankruptcy judge over procedural flaws, including that bid amounts were not made public, and it was unclear if the satirical news site was the real winner.

In April, The Onion’s parent company, Global Tetrahedron, struck a new licensing deal with the receiver. It would have allowed The Onion to lease the InfoWars brand, domain, and intellectual property for $81,000 per month, with options for renewal or full sale, turning the platform into satire mocking Jones.

Jones and his legal team fought back, arguing the process was rigged and an attack on free speech.

On April 30, the Texas Third Court of Appeals granted an emergency stay, pausing the transfer and putting the deal in limbo.

The families’ attorneys quickly appealed to the Texas Supreme Court, with a potential hearing as early as May 28.

Control remains unresolved, but the receiver had already stopped covering operational costs.

As Jones stated in a pre-sign-off video, “He’s not paying the bills… so we have to shut down. Thursday is the last official InfoWars show.”

“They’re turning the power off at midnight,” Jones said. “Private detectives are coming in to close the doors. And they’re gonna act like they’ve got their big ass victory.”

“The state court just blocked the little rat-confessed Satanists from coming in to wear our skin for months while we launched our operation,” he added.

The InfoWars website now displays a simple “Off Air” message. No one currently controls all the assets, creating an unprecedented situation that forced the physical shutdown despite the legal reprieve.

Though they may have taken Infowars, Jones has made clear he is not going silent.

In statements during and after the final broadcast, he announced the rebrand and continue under the Alex Jones Show and Alex Jones Network.

Jones confirmed he has prepared a new studio and will continue the “exact same show” via satellite, radio stations, and digital platforms.

“I’m going to continue the exact same show… It’ll just be called the ‘Alex Jones Show.’… So I’m not going anywhere,” Jones said.

Jones has called the shutdown the start of “the real war.”
