Surveillance video captured an incident in Garland on Monday, which resulted in the death of a carjacker after he foolishly decided to steal a father’s vehicle.

The footage starts with the man marching toward the Texas dad’s white Impala while glaring at the witness who recorded him. The father’s entire family, who are in the car, is unaware of what is happening.

The carjacker then bumps into the father, who is carrying a firearm. He briefly muscles his way past the dad after a struggle and gets in the car with the father’s baby, two adult females, and multiple children inside.

But just as the thug is about to turn the car on and take off, the father opens fire and shoots the crook at least ten times.

KDFW reports the carjacker was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The father and his entire family escaped unharmed. He stayed on scene, cooperated with investigators, and handed over his gun.

Cell phone footage obtained by a witness and shared by KDFW starts with the carjacker, who is in a peach shirt, successfully breaking into several vehicles before targeting the Texas father’s vehicle.

The Garland Police Department said the whole chain of events started when the thug barreled into two vehicles along Highway 66, about 18 miles outside downtown Dallas, around 3:30 p.m.

He then fled to a nearby gas station, where he tried to steal several vehicles.

Garland police Lt. Pedro Barineau told NBC DFW that no charges are expected to be filed against the father, describing the shooting incident as a textbook case of self-defense.

“That driver was defending himself and was fighting with that suspect. The car was occupied by several children as well as two other female adults,” Barineau explained.

“We are looking at this as a self-defense case, he added. We’re also looking into why this suspect did what he did.”

Garland resident Taylor Standfield told NBC DFW that he saw the aftermath of the incident and agreed the driver did what was necessary to protect those he loved.

“I have three kids. I’m gonna do whatever it takes to keep them safe. That kind of stuff is split-second,” he said.

“It’s hard to imagine what it’s even like being in that situation with the adrenaline and knowing that you have kids in your vehicle.”

The police have not yet identified the carjacker, but described him as a Hispanic male.
