Elon Musk calls SPLC a ‘criminal organization’ after revelations they’ve been accused of funding KKK cross burnings, racist merch

Following the release of a superseding indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) accusing the organization of using donor funds to pay for cross burnings and KKK hoods and robes, Elon Musk has called the organization criminal. The new indictment was revealed this week.
“Southern Poverty Law Center is a criminal organization,” Musk wrote in response to the new indictment. The SPLC was originally indicted in April on charges that include six counts of wire fraud, four counts of making false statements to a federally insured bank, and one count of conspiracy to commit concealment money laundering. The new indictment keeps the 11 counts, but expands on the allegations against the group.
Among the new allegations in the superseding indictment that was returned by an Alabama grand jury on Tuesday was that the SPLC funneled around $4.1 million in donations “to a series of fictitious accounts” that were used to pay “field sources” affiliated with extremist groups between 2014 and 2023.
The superceding indictment also alleges that those funds were used to purchase materials for cross burnings and making Ku Klux Klan robes and hoods, attending and hosting extremist group rallies nationwide, creating and growing chapters of extremist groups as well as recruiting new members, making “racist paraphernalia that extremist groups sold at rallies,” and paying the living expenses of field sources to allow them to “focus on their extremist groups rather than seeking other employment.”
“The SPLC actively led donors to believe that their donations would be used to ‘dismantle’ violent extremist groups. However, the SPLC hid from donors the fact that a portion of their donated funds was being secretly used to support extremist groups and to fund their violent, racist, and extremist activities,” the indictment stated. “These activities were of the same nature as the activities about which the SPLC published articles on its website and other forums in an effort to obtain donations.”
As Musk has spoken out against the SPLC, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has accused the tech CEO of “trying to whip up division” in his country following the murder of Henry Nowak. Musk has made a number of posts about the case, including a Wednesday morning post that read, “The West has created an utterly evil state religion where an accusation of “racism” is the gravest offense that can be committed, even worse than rape or murder! So if police show up at a crime scene and a British boy is bleeding out and an immigrant says the British boy is racist the cops will cuff the dying British boy.”
Starmer said, “We need to also assert who we are as a country, because Musk, again, has been interfering in our politics in the last few days, trying to whip up division – that is not who we are in Britain. In Britain, we are reasonable, tolerant people. When we have a terrible case like Henry’s case, Henry Nowak, we react calmly, as his family have done.”
