First Sentebale, nos Invictus Games… what next?

Are all his charities becoming dysfunctional?

We have reported here on TGP about the ugly mudslinging between British Prince Harry and the Chairwoman of the African Charity Sentebale, Sophie Chandauka.

People familiar with the estranged royal reported on how distressed he appeared last year as he stepped down as patron of Sentebale.

He founded the charity in 2006 to benefit orphaned African children, but in 2025, he concluded that his relationship with Chandauka had deteriorated ‘beyond repair’.

But now, Harry is reportedly suffering another series of setbacks, this time with a charity that means so much to him – the Invictus Games.

Daily Mail reported:

“The question is prompted by the resignation of one of the most distinguished members of Invictus’s board of trustees for next year’s Games in Birmingham. Indeed, not only was Melloney Poole a trustee but she was also vice chairman of the board.

In a long and eminent career deploying her legal expertise both in the commercial sphere and public service, she previously played a key role at the Heritage Lottery Fund, as well as chairing the board of governors for the Regional Committee of the National Lottery Charities Board.”

Melloney Poole is a top-tier executive, and securing her services in was quite a coup for Invictus – so, her departure is a hard blow for Harry.

“’Melloney has decided to step down to focus on her other interests – not least the Florence Nightingale Foundation,’ a spokesman for Invictus tells [the Daily Mail], adding her ‘extensive leadership experience’ had been ‘instrumental’ in establishing the foundations for next year’s games.”

And, in another damaging development, it arises that Harry’s ‘Invictus Australia’ has seen Government funding axed weeks after the duke and his wife visited the country.

GB News reported:

“The Anthony Albanese administration had previously earmarked AUD$9m over three years for Invictus Australia in the 2022-2023 budget, set to expire in the next financial year. However, it has not been renewed in the 2026-2027 budget, which was passed down on Tuesday.

[…] Invictus Australia chief executive Michael Hartung told 2GB on Wednesday that he had been left ‘in shock’ by the decision to scrap funding.

‘We found out about it on Tuesday evening… as they were going in, we had a little heads up, but that was really the first we’d heard of it’, he told the outlet. ‘So we had been working on trying to secure our long-term plans, and we have a lot in the pipeline over the next 12 months that we were working towards’.”
