Trump to renominate FEMA acting director he fired last year: reports

President Donald Trump plans to renominate former Federal Emergency Management Agency Acting Director Cameron Hamilton after he was terminated last year by the president, multiple outlets reported late Thursday.
Trump selected Hamilton to lead FEMA in January 2025 as he considered plans to eliminate the agency. However, the one-time Republican congressional candidate and Navy SEAL reportedly clashed with Homeland Security Department leadership, including then-Secretary Kristi Noem and her chief aide, Corey Lewandowski, according to CNN.
Then, in his May testimony before Congress, Hamilton broke with the administration’s position that the disaster management agency should be eliminated.
“As the senior adviser to the president on disasters and emergency management, and to the secretary of homeland security, I do not believe it is in the best interest the American people to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency,” Hamilton told a committee.
The president has not formally renominated Hamilton for the role.
