A driveby shooting in Chicago’s South Side left at least 12 people wounded after police said an SUV pulled up to a group gathered on a street, and two occupants opened fire before fleeing the scene.

President Donald Trump posted on the Chicago violence Friday night, writing: “Why isn’t Governor Pritzker calling me for help. I could make Chicago a safe City in ONE MONTH, in ONE YEAR, it would be one of the safest!!! D.C. went from one of the worst, to one of the safest cities in the U.S.”

The victims included eight men and four women, ranging in age from 17 to 47. Police said two men were in critical condition following the attack. One suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. Others were taken to four hospitals for treatment.

Initial officers responding to the scene were called for a single shooting victim, but later found a woman with two gunshot wounds to her back and a man with four graze wounds. Both were listed in fair condition. One additional male victim reported injuries but declined medical treatment.

Detectives are continuing to investigate, and no arrests have been made. Police said further information was not immediately available.

Chicago authorities also reported broader weekend violence, saying at least 21 people have been shot across the city since Friday evening, including four fatalities.

The shootings took place during Juneteenth weekend. Earlier Friday, former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama welcomed visitors to his presidential center on the South Side.
