President Donald Trump honored Melody Wolfe, the mother of West Virginia National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, during a White House military Mother’s Day event on Wednesday. The event recognized Wolfe’s resilience after her son was critically wounded while serving in Washington, DC.

Trump recounted how Andrew was shot in the head while on patrol in the nation’s capital in November of 2025 as part of an effort to increase security and public safety.

“Last year, Melody’s 24-year-old son, Andrew Wolfe, of the West Virginia National Guard, was on patrol in Washington, DC, helping to restore law and order to our capital city,” Trump said during his remarks. “He was ambushed by a terrorist and shot in the head.”

Trump noted how doctors initially believed Andrew was unlikely to survive, but recalled speaking with Wolfe, who remained confident her son would recover.

“She was right,” Trump said, adding that he regularly checked on Andrew’s condition and noted his recovery exceeded the doctor’s expectations. Trump also credited Wolfe’s optimism, saying she had effectively “willed” her son back to good health.

During his remarks, Trump referenced Isaiah 41:10, quoting, “Do not fear, for I am with you,” and said that with God’s help, Andrew has made an “incredible recovery.” He also noted how he awarded Andrew the Purple Heart during his State of the Union address.

Wolfe later addressed attendees, reflecting on the support her family received in the aftermath of the shooting. “We had the nation behind us at a time when nobody thought our boy would make it,” she said.

She explained that Andrew is expected to undergo additional surgeries in September, but said the family is hopeful he will soon be able to live independently.

“We have a strong faith in God, and God is what brought our son through this,” she said.
