Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Monday announced a lawsuit against Democratic donations processor ActBlue, alleging that the organization misled consumers and that it maintained unlawful practices that allowed for foreign and fraudulent donations.

“The radical left has relied on ActBlue as a way to funnel foreign donations and dark money into their political campaigns to subvert our laws and compromise the integrity of our elections,” he said in a statement. “ActBlue lied to Congress and to the American people, and I will ensure justice is served. It has blatantly ignored state law that prohibits deceptive practices, and it must pay for its illegal conduct. Fair elections are the foundation of our democracy, and I will work to ensure no illegal campaign donation flies under the radar.”

The lawsuit pointed to numerous public statements form ActBlue, including statements to Congress, that it had revised its practices to “strengthen its platform while implementing procedures designed to prevent its potential misuses.”

“But ActBlue’s representations to Congress were not true, and ActBlue knew they were not true. ActBlue was aware that its systems did not operate in the manner ActBlue had represented,” the suit alleges.

Paxton is seeking $1 million in monetary relief.
