President Trump on Thursday reemphasized the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran, calling on all countries in the Middle East to “maintain their commitment to allowing our negotiations to beautifully unfold.”

Trump signed the 14-point MOU on Wednesday while having dinner at the Palace of Versailles with European leaders. Vance and the Iranians signed the deal electronically.

The Strait of Hormuz has since been fully opened, and Iran has agreed that it will not procure or develop nuclear weapons.

Vice President JD Vance told reporters during a White House press briefing earlier that under the memorandum, if Iran can “show verifiable pathways to not rebuild” its nuclear program, only then will the US provide sanctions relief to Iran.

The MOU further declares an “immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

However, an advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly said that Israel does not consider itself bound to that part of the deal and will not withdraw troops from Lebanon.

Vance responded to Israeli critics of the deal and members of Netanyahu’s cabinet on Thursday, slamming them for attacking their “only powerful ally” and demanding they “wake up and smell the reality of the situation that country is in.”

Following Vance’s press briefing, Trump also chimed in, writing on Truth Social, “We expect a complete Ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Israel.”

Per Axios’s Barak Ravid, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri responded to Trump’s statement, saying, “In order to assist the success of the Iranian-American negotiations in Switzerland, and particularly with regard to the first clause in the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, and in reference to the statement by United States President Donald Trump regarding the ceasefire between Israel, Lebanon, and Hezbollah, I wish to emphasize Lebanon’s position and Hezbollah’s commitment to the ceasefire, as long as Israel upholds it in full and comprehensive manner.”

Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter said, “Israel remains committed to the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel, Lebanon, and the United States. If Hezbollah does not violate the agreement, it will be upheld. In any case, Israel reserves the right to respond to any attack against it and to thwart threats to its territory, its citizens, and its soldiers.”

Earlier, Trump slammed his critics as “fools” for thinking he isn’t being “tough enough on Iran. He further described them as “jealous, bad people, or stupid.”
