The trespasser who walked in front of the Frontier Airlines plane on the Denver Airport runway has been identified a 41-year-old Michael Mott.

Officials determined his cause of death to be suicide.

Authorities said Mott was a career criminal who was previously arrested for murder.

The New York Post reported on Mott’s rap sheet:

A spokesperson for the department later told The Post that Mott was involved in a reported assault back in February 2025, but no arrests were made after the victim declined to press charges.

Additionally, he racked up over 20 arrests – including one for felony trespassing in Colorado Springs, just one month before his suicide – and spent time behind bars on at least three separate occassions dating back to 2002, public records show.

Many of his arrests were for violent crimes including second-degree homicide using a gun in 2005; domestic violence, felony menacing and assault in 2010; second-degree burglary in 2016 and felony assault on a peace officer in 2020.

In 2017, he attempted to escape prison custody, according to public records.

His other violations, which began when he was just 17 years old, included driving under the influence, a hit-and-run, trespassing and resisting arrest on several occasions.

A Frontier Airlines plane struck Mott on the runway at Denver International Airport last Friday evening, triggering an engine fire.

The plane was bound for LAX.

Passengers were evacuated three minutes after the trespasser was fatally hit.

According to reports, Mott breached a perimeter fence shortly before the plane took off.

One passenger said the plane’s cabin began to fill with smoke.

Newly-released thermal footage shows the moment Mott walked in front of the Frontier plane.

Mott died of blunt and sharp force injuries after being sucked into the plane’s engine, according to the chief medical examiner.

Sterling McLaren, chief medical examiner for the city and county of Denver, said no note was recovered and officials determined the cause of death to be suicide based on their post-mortem examination. She did not provide further details.
