It seems that anything far-left Mayor Mamdani touches gets ruined, and the New York Mets are on the receiving end of the Mayor’s bad luck streak.

Mamdani and his radical wife made a stop at Citi Field on April 9, 2026.  During the visit, the duo shared a hug with the team’s two mascots, Mr. and Mrs. Met, and shared the video on social media.

Since then, the Mets have gone 0-11.

The Mets franchise is also in the news for more than just their losing streak. Fans have noticed that for a few years now, there have been no named Jewish heritage nights at Citi Field despite other groups being hosted annually.

The last Jewish Heritage Night was held in September 2023, before the October 7 Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.

Prior to 2023, the Mets hosted Jewish Heritage Night intermittently for many years (dating back to at least the mid-2000s both at Shea Stadium and later Citi Field. It was not held every single season and was sometimes replaced or alternated with a “Celebrate Israel Night”. The last Celebrate Israel Night was in 2022.

After 2023, the Mets claimed they were moving away from many individual heritage nights for a broader “Celebration of Queens Culture” program.

While there is no Jewish Heritage night on the Mets calendar as of yet for 2026, the following groups are currently included:

• Italian
• Puerto Rican
• Irish
• Black Legacy
• Pride/LGBTQ+
• Japanese
• Korean
• Dominican
• Mexican

Queens has the third-largest Jewish population among NYC boroughs, making up about 6.5% of the population.

Among the groups the Mets have given a “celebration of culture” night, the Japanese population makes up less than 1%, Koreans just under 3%, and Puerto Ricans account for around 5%.

There will be heritage nights for the Irish, Puerto Ricans, Italians, Koreans, blacks, and a Pride Night. New York is a very Jewish city, much more so than it is Irish or Puerto Rican. What gives?

Rumors are that the Mets don’t want to deal with policing antisemitic protests. The night would attract pro-Palestinian and antisemitic activists bringing signs or unfurling banners.

For decades, the NY @Mets have hosted a Jewish heritage event, along with event nights for other cultures.

This year, in a city with the largest Jewish population in America, they canceled it.

Conservative radio host Sid Rosenberg said the Mets are just too woke and Mamdani has not just cursed the Mets, he has cursed the city.

The Mets will have to wait until Tuesday, when they play the Twins, to see whether the “hug of death” curse is broken.
