In a recent CBS interview, Karmelo Anthony‘s father falsely claimed that his son’s jury was “all-white” despite having personally observed the jurors in the courtroom. The jury featured a number of minorities, but no black members were chosen.

“Take us inside that courtroom. What stuck out to you?” the CBS host asked Andrew Anthony.

“What stuck out to me, number one, was the all-white jury,” said Andrew, adding that he initially brushed it off because “the truth is on our side.” However, the convicted murderer’s father was not truthful at all. Among the 12 people on the jury, there three racial minorities, including an Asian and Indian. Of the total 18 jurors which included alternates, there were six minorities, per Fox News.

Karmelo Anthony, 19, was convicted on Tuesday for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during an April 2025 high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. Anthony is black, and Metcalf was white. Anthony and his supporters immediately turned the murder into a racial incident, claiming that Anthony had acted in self-defense. His family raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Collin County jury found no evidence of self-defense and found Anthony guilty of murder, rendering a 35-year prison sentence. Prosecutors presented evidence that Anthony approached Metcalf and others, escalated the situation, and used a knife to kill Metcalf after the victim asked Anthony repeatedly to leave his team’s tent, which sparked an altercation when Anthony, who was on an opposing team, refused to leave.

During the trial, black community members came out in force to support Anthony, claiming the now convicted murderer was being unfairly prosecuted because he was black. At least one black woman, who identified herself as a mother, said she would “stand by” Anthony no matter the verdict.

Rap artist Cardi B has since come to Anthony’s defense, referring to his conviction as “disgusting.” She later announced her intention to instruct her black sons to refrain from arguing with white boys, claiming that the law would not be on their side.
