Far-left Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner has finally broken his silence about the latest scandal threatening his campaign, and he is using his wife as a shield.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, The Wall Street Journal uncovered proof on Saturday that Platner’s wife, Amy Gertner, previously told a campaign aide about finding sexually explicit texts with several women on her husband’s phone while they were married.
The New York Times revealed that she disclosed the texts to Genevieve McDonald, a former state legislator who was the Platner campaign’s political director before leaving in October. McDonald explained that Gertner reached out just days before a Labor Day rally with Senator Bernie Sanders (Socialist-VT), and that she was worried that her husband’s behavior could hurt his political prospects.
McDonald added that Gertner told her that Platner had been exchanging sexual messages with up to a dozen women.
On Sunday, Platner’s campaign put Gertner forward to answer for him in a hostage-like video.
Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner’s wife says it is shameful that the media is sharing “gossip” that she first brought to light.
The statement from Amy Gertner comes after the New York Times reported that she flagged s*xually explicit texts to his campaign.

On Sunday night, reporters finally got Platner himself to address the scandal. He made sure his wife was by his side as he finally spoke out.
At the same time, he blasted the media for covering gossip and ignoring the “real issues” facing the Senate race.
When reporters finally got him an answer on McDonald’s allegations, he called her a liar.
Throughout the video, Gertner looks uncomfortable and unhappy.
WATCH:
REPORTER: We saw Amy’s video last night about this situation, about the report in the Times and the Journal. What would your statement be at this point?
PLATNER (scoffs): It’s no surprise to me that the establishment media outlets are just gonna run gossip instead of wanting to talk about the things that actually matter in this race, which are the material realities Mainers are working with.
These people are gonna try to make this race about anything but what’s it’s supposed to be about which is policy. They never want to talk about policy.
Amy and I have a very loving and very happy marriage. They would very much like to try to rip that apart.
They’re gonna come after us in every awful way they possibly can, and we’re just gonna keep talking about the fact that the hospitals are closing, the fact that childcare facilities are closing, the fact that teachers and nurses aren’t paid enough, and the fact that everybody down here continues to work harder and longer and get less.
Nut, of course, the powers that be don’t want us to talk about that, so they’re just gonna do gossip instead.
REPORTER: Are the stories true about the texts?
PLATNER: The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times ran stories without any evidence besides the gossip from a former staffer. I’m sorry, that’s frankly journalistic malpractice.
We pushed back on it, but they did it anyway. What Genevieve McDonald said in the NYT is not true.
REPORTER #2: So you’re confirming the messages did not exist?
PLATNER: I’m confirming what Genevieve McDonald said in the New York Times is not true.
