President Donald Trump’s former lawyer John Eastman was officially disbarred in California on Wednesday after the state Supreme Court declined to overturn a lower court’s recommendation to strip him of his law license.

“The petitions for review are denied,” the California Supreme Court ruled. “The court orders that John Charles Eastman …. is disbarred from the practice of law in California and that respondent’s name is stricken from the roll of attorneys.”

The state Supreme Court also ordered Eastman to pay the California state bar $5,000 in sanctions.

Eastman has not been allowed to practice law in the state since 2024, while his case made its way through the court system, according to Law.com

He was accused of making “false and misleading statements” regarding alleged fraud in the 2020 election and allegedly advised Trump that former Vice President Mike Pence could legally pause the 2021 Electoral College vote count.

The former Trump attorney appealed the initial order recommending his disbarment, claiming the California state bar pursued a “scorched earth” prosecution against him because of his political views.

Eastman has not publicly commented on the order so far.
