A Department of Homeland Security employee has been identified as one of two people killed in a series of violent attacks in DeKalb County, Georgia on Monday. The DHS says that the suspect is a 26-year-old naturalized US citizen from the UK.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said, “On Monday, a DHS employee, Lauren Bullis, was brutally shot and stabbed to death by Olaolukitan Adon Abel, a 26-year-old, born in the United Kingdom, who was naturalized by the Biden Administration in 2022.”

Abel has a criminal history that includes “convictions for sexual battery, battery against a police officer, obstruction, and assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism,” Mullin said. He added, “These acts of pure evil have devastated our Department and my prayers are with the families of the victims.”

Authorities say the string of attacks began at 12:50 am on Monday, when police discovered a woman who had been shot multiple times on Wesley Chapel Road. She later died from her injuries, Fox News reported. Later the same day, a man was shot several times after he was ambushed outside a business center in Brookhaven, where he was sleeping. He remains in critical condition.

At 6:50 am, Bullis was found with stabbing and gunshot wounds on Battle Forest Drive. She had been out walking her dog, and did not survive the injuries. Witnesses reported seeing a man standing over her before fleeing the scene. DHS confirmed to Fox News that Bullis worked in the DHS Office of the Inspector General.

“It is apparent to us that this was a completely random attack,” Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said. Abel was captured by law enforcement in Troup County, after being tracked down through license plate recognition cameras. Per Fox 5, Abel is facing two counts of murder, aggravated assault, and weapon possession charges.
