Cowboy-hatted Swedish soccer fan swoons over Buc-ee’s: ‘I love the beef jerky!’

A group of Swedish soccer fans attending the FIFA World Cup in Texas found an unexpected attraction this week in the form of Buc-ee’s.
The Texas-based convenience store chain became part of the tournament conversation after a Swedish supporter went viral during a local television interview while praising the popular travel stop. The fan had been in Texas to watch Sweden take on the Netherlands in World Cup action.
During an interview with Houston television station KHOU, a reporter asked the supporter about his cowboy hat. The fan quickly revealed where he purchased it.
“From Buc-ee’s!” he said. “So go, Buc-ee’s. Great place. I love the beef jerky. We love the cowboy style!”
The clip gained attention online as international visitors continued to experience some of Texas’ best-known attractions during the tournament. Buc-ee’s, known for its massive stores, huge food offerings, and beaver mascot, has become a destination for many visitors traveling through the state.
The excitement came during Sweden’s stay in Texas for a Group F matchup against the Netherlands. While the fan’s praise for Buc-ee’s drew laughs and attention, the result on the field was less favorable for Sweden.
The Netherlands defeated Sweden 5-1, strengthening its position atop the group standings.
The World Cup has brought thousands of international supporters to cities across North America, with many fans using the opportunity to explore local attractions between matches. In Texas, that has included visits to Buc-ee’s locations, which are known for selling everything from brisket sandwiches and beef jerky to Texas-themed merchandise.
