A US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress went down Monday morning shortly after departing from Edwards Air Force Base in California, according to military officials. Emergency response crews were dispatched to the scene as details remained limited in the immediate aftermath.

The incident occurred around 11:20 am local time, the Air Force said in a post on X. Authorities did not confirm whether there were injuries or fatalities. The aircraft is typically operated by a crew of five, reports The Associated Press.

Edwards Air Force Base, located in the Mojave Desert roughly 100 miles north of Los Angeles, is a major U.S. military testing facility. The site has long been associated with aviation milestones, including the 1947 supersonic flight by test pilot Chuck Yeager.

Officials have not released further details on what caused the crash
