The Trump administration has been able to pull off a record-breaking streak of zero catch-and-release incidents at the border over the past year, according to a report from the Daily Caller.

The achievement comes after there was a significant uptick in border encounters as well as catch-and-release operations under the Biden administration. Trump’s DHS and CBP have dramatically tightened border enforcement, with no individuals apprehended at the border being released over the past 13 months. According to the outlet, the figure is the lowest that has been seen in over three decades.

Under the previous administration, former President Joe Biden’s border policies allowed for around 10.3 million illegal immigrants to cross the border between 2021 and 2024.

“Thirteen straight months of ZERO releases at the border. Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, we are delivering the most secure border in American history,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said of the accomplishment. “The days of catch and release are over. We are enforcing the nation’s laws and quickly sending illegal aliens back to their home countries, ensuring the safety and sovereignty of our nation.”

“Our robust enforcement policies are working,” CBP Commissioner Rodney S. Scott said in a press release. “[W]e are delivering unprecedented results in border security, drug interdiction, and trade enforcement.”

Aside from border crossings, the Trump administration’s border security has led to higher drug seizures at the border. Nearly 800 pounds of fentanyl were seized at the border in May alone, and CPB, over the last four months, has seized an average of 37,033 pounds of marijuana at the border a month, which is 61 percent higher than Biden’s numbers in 2024.

Beyond drug seizures, CBP also intercepted two million counterfeit items valued at more than $400 million during May, and border enforcement blocked roughly 250 shipments valued at over $44 million in the same time frame.
