A former adjunct lecturer at Hunter College has been arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer outside the Delaney Hall immigration detention facility in Newark, New Jersey.

36-year-old Aida Riddle of Brooklyn was arrested following an incident at the facility on June 3. Authorities have charged Riddle with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Riddle describes herself as a “black and queer emerging fiction writer.” According to a report by the New York Post, she taught at Hunter College while pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree from 2023 to 2024 and currently works as a freelance writer.

Riddle has also worked as an outreach associate at the Brooklyn Public Library and contributed to several small-scale literacy publications, having previously authored an anti-Republican piece titled “I am Eating Myself Alive.”

“’Watch as the GOP eats their own entrails.’ I think of a snake cannibalizing its own skinny tail…a scaly violence that lives into eternity… I am next in line,” the story read.

Hunter College is known for being a far-left institution and recently gained attention over a job posting for a professor of “Palestinian Studies,” which reportedly targets Israel over “settler colonialism, genocide,” “apartheid,” and “infrastructure devastation.”

The arrest comes as agitators continue to be unruly outside Delaney Hall, with allegations that inmates are being treated inhumanely. However, federal officials have disputed those claims following inspections of the facility. Representative Jeff Van Drew, who toured the detention center, reported that illegal alien detainees were enjoying yoga and aromatherapy while inside.
