Former First Lady Jill Biden opened up about Biden’s cancer diagnosis in a wide-ranging interview with CBS News Sunday Morning’s Rita Braver, describing the news as “shocking” and “somehow” missed by White House doctors. 

In May 2025, just months after the Bidens left the White House, it was reported that the then 82-year-old was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.

President Trump responded after the news broke last year, seemingly suggesting that it was swept under the rug by former White House physician Kevin O’Connor, who famously covered up Biden’s cognitive decline. “It takes a long time to get to that situation … to get to a stage nine. I think that if you take a look, it’s the same doctor that said that Joe was cognitively fine,” he told reporters.

“Somehow that was missed,” Jill Biden said of the diagnosis.

Jill Biden recently joined CBS News Sunday Morning for her first solo sit-down interview since leaving the White House to promote her new book, “View from the East Wing: A Memoir.”

The full interview is scheduled to air on Sunday.

“I can remember getting the diagnosis, and it was just— it was shocking,” Jill said. “The [White House] doctor said that, according to the American Urological Association, that men over 70 don’t need a PSA, a blood test anymore, because it’s a slow-growing cancer.”

“I have to say, Rita, I do feel we had amazing care in the White House, but somehow that was missed,” she added.

In another portion of the interview that was pre-released by CBS, Jill also claimed that she had never seen any signs of cognitive decline, even doubling down on the statement.

When Braver noted that everyone could see he “wasn’t the same Joe Biden,” Jill stumbled, “Well, I don’t think that’s true. He was the same, the essence of the same Joe Biden.”

“But yeah, he was slowing down. He was getting older. I mean, we all observe that when— you know, it’s a very intense job. I think it ages you, um, quickly,” she continued.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Jill Biden, in a recent interview, claimed that Biden’s debate performance against Trump “frightened” her and that she thought he was having a stroke when he crashed out on the stage.

“I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never since,” Jill Biden told Braver. “As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh, my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.”

President Trump responded to Jill’s comments with a zinger on Friday. “Did my strong performance in that debate cause him to plain and simple ‘choke,’ leading to his ignominious defeat, or were other reasons the cause? Nobody else knows the answer to that, BUT I DO!!!” the President said after trolling the notion that she believed Biden had a stroke but did nothing about it like “any good wife would.”
