Finland President Stubb Says ‘It’s time for Europe To Start Talking With Russia’

Will Stubb unleash a European push for peace?

Stubb is pushing for dialogue.

The world is complex, and sometimes, when a politician breaks a promise to the voters, it can turn out to be a good thing.

Take Alexander Stubb, president of Finland, for example: leader of a country that has a long border with Russia, he was elected in February 2024, saying all the things that Euro-Globalists wanted to hear – as you can read in Stubb Elected President in NATO Finland, Vows ‘No Relations’ With Russia Until the End of the War.

At this point, over two years later, the war hasn’t ended, but the energy crisis and the fact that EU ‘powers’ now have to pay themselves for the war, have led Stubb to change his mind, and break his promise – and that’s a good thing.

As far back as late March, the Finnish leader started calling for talks with Russia, and today (11), he reiterated it on an interview.

Corriere Della Sera reported (translated from the Italian):

[Stubb:] “I believe that the hypothesis of peace is not on the table at least for this year. If American policy towards Russia and Ukraine is not in Europe’s interest, as I think it is [not], then we must engage directly.

Yes, it’s time to start talking to Russia. When this will happen, I don’t know. We have discussed with European leaders who will make contact, we don’t know yet.

The most important thing is that everything has to be coordinated between us, especially between the E5 (Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Poland) with the Nordics and the Baltics, which are on the border. If it is a special envoy or a group of leaders, we will see.”

Stubb was also asked about Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a withdraw of 5 thousand soldiers from Germany and the cancelling of the deployment of US cruise missiles.

[Corriere Della Sera:] “’President Stubb, there is alarm in Europe. The scenario of a complete US withdrawal is no longer unrealistic. Would we Europeans be able to defend ourselves against a once again aggressive Russia? Mark Rutte, the NATO Secretary General, says no. You have said yes, several times. How?’

[Stubb:] ‘First observation, we have to calm down and lower the temperature. […] I am not particularly worried about the possible withdrawal of 5,000 of the 37,000 American troops stationed in Germany. The United States will not withdraw from Europe, and do you know why? If they want to project their power into regions like the Middle East, Asia, Africa, they need to have a solid foundation here. American troops are not in Europe to protect us, but to allow America to be a global power.

But there is no doubt that Europe must take more responsibility. We are good friends with Rutte, Finland has been in NATO for three years and four months and our defensive posture has always been structured to defend ourselves from Russia alone. My answer is: if we can defend ourselves, NATO can do it too’.”
