Trump slams conservative Supreme Court justices for allowing $159B in tariff refunds

President Donald Trump sharply criticized two Supreme Court justices he appointed, accusing them of undermining his trade agenda and warning that an upcoming ruling on the birthright citizenship case could further damage the country.
In a lengthy statement posted Saturday, Trump said he was disappointed by recent Supreme Court decisions involving tariffs, singling out Justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett for siding against his administration’s position.
“I ‘Love’ Justice Neil Gorsuch! He’s a really smart and good man, but he voted against me, and our Country, on Tariffs,” Trump wrote. “I have, likewise, always liked and respected Amy Coney Barrett, but the same thing with her.”
Trump said the court’s tariff ruling will cost the United States $159 billion dollars in repayments tied to duties collected under his trade policies. He argued the justices could have included language allowing the government to keep the tariff revenue already collected instead of sending it back to countries that have been “ripping us off” for years.
“They were appointed by me, and yet have hurt our Country so badly,” Trump wrote.
Trump said that Democratic-appointed justices remain loyal to the administrations that elevated them to the bench.
“With certain Republican Nominated Justices that we have on the Supreme Court, the Democrats don’t really need to ‘PACK THE COURT’ any longer,” Trump said. “In fact, I should be the one wanting to PACK THE COURT!”
Trump warned that a ruling against his position on birthright citizenship would hurt the country economically.
“A negative ruling on Birthright Citizenship, on top of the recent Supreme Court Tariff catastrophe, is not Economically sustainable for the United States of America!” he wrote.
