‘DoorDash Grandma’ delivers McDonald’s to Trump at Oval Office after ‘no tax on tips’ saves her $11,000

On Monday, President Donald Trump ordered a McDonald’s meal to the White House in what appeared to be a one-of-a-kind DoorDash delivery at the Oval Office.
A delivery worker wearing a “DoorDash Grandma” shirt brought him two bags of food from McDonald’s, a food chain he is known to enjoy. The worker was identified as Sharon Simmons by the company in a press release.
Trump said that Simmons had gained an extra $11,000 due to a large tax bill. “The reason for this is the fact that I heard you picked up an extra $11,000 … because the tax bill was so big, the refund was the biggest you’ve ever had,” Trump said.
He also suggested a name for the legislation, saying, “We should call it the ‘great big beautiful tax cut bill,’ because it’s tremendous amounts of money.” He added that there are tax cuts on overtime as well as Social Security.
The idea of removing taxes on tips had been a key policy point for Trump during the 2024 campaign, and Republican lawmakers later incorporated it into a sweeping tax and spending package enacted last summer.
“It was an incredible honor to represent Dashers from all over the country at the White House today. Thanks to DoorDash, I have been able to provide for my family while keeping the schedule that works best for me, something I never thought would be possible. Now ‘no tax on tips’ has taken things to the next level, letting me keep more of the tips I earn and deserve,” Sharon said.
“Today is a celebration of the advocacy of thousands of Dashers from around the country who fought to ensure we were included in this policy,” she added.
While the delivery worker stood nearby, Trump took questions from reporters on a variety of issues having to do with Iran as well as an AI photo of Trump where he appeared to be depicted as Jesus. Trump said that he believed he was being depicted as a doctor.
Simmons was asked by reporters whether White House staff were generous with tips. In response, Trump pulled out a $100 bill and handed it to her.
“Yes, very,” she said.
